Maroondah Community Enterprises Limited trading as Ringwood East and Heathmont Community Bank® Branches is a Community company that was founded and is owned by just over 420 shareholders with a connection to Maroondah.

The need to bring back banking services to Ringwood East, after all the major banks withdrew, saw the Ringwood East Traders and some local residents form a Steering Committee, contact Bendigo Bank and within 18 months had opened the doors of Ringwood East and Heathmont Community Bank® Branches on 20 June 2003, being the 98th Ringwood and Heathmont Community Bank® in the Bendigo Network.

From the day Ringwood East and Heathmont Community Bank® Branches opened we have been returning benefits to the Community of Maroondah. The shareholders waited until 2007 before receiving their 1st dividend of three cents per share (for details of the dividend history click here) knowing that they founded the company primarily to provide benefits to our Community. The Ringwood and Heathmont Community Bank® model is set up to return, from our profits, up to 80% in Community Benefits and up to 20% in shareholders dividends and the Company has stayed true to this commitment.

Ringwood and Heathmont Community Banking® was all about bringing back quality banking services that had left communities; however that has now changed to providing employment opportunities for local people, keeping capital in the community and provides a source of revenue and capital for important community projects as determined by the community.

A two year campaign by Heathmont residents joined Maroondah Community Enterprises Limited in 2008 to raise funds to establish the Ringwood and Heathmont Community Bank® Branches which opened its doors on 13 February 2009. Being less that a week after the Black Saturday Bushfire, the Board agreed to donate $25,000 to the Appeal on behalf of the Community of Ringwood East and Heathmont as well as providing our Community Bus for transporting food and drinks to fire fighters.

In November 2009 we invited local Community Groups to tell us what the Community needed. 60 Groups told us they wanted in order of preference a Community Hub, Educations Programs, help for the homeless, Integration of Ethnic Groups, assistance for health providers, and support for Sporting Clubs and venue facilities. The list goes on.

We are proud to be able to report to our customers and shareholders that while a Community Hub takes a lot of funds, time and planning we have had serious talks with Council and a local Primary school about how to meet this need. As for education programs we proudly sponsored a road & driver education program that presented to over 1,000 students in our area as well as sporting groups. An appeal raised funds for 12 Swags for the Homeless, we support St. Stephen’s in assisting Ethic Integration, Maroondah Hospital Auxiliary with new medical equipment (while the old equipment went to Haiti earthquake victims) and proudly support many and varied sporting clubs in a range of ways.

The Community Benefits Thermometer at Ringwood East and Heathmont Community Bank® Branches shows that we have paid to shareholders and provided benefits to and on behalf of customers to the community of over $1.1million and we look forward to even more in the years to come.

Community Banking is simple; we support our Community with the support of customers that enjoy friendly, personal, quality banking services at our Ringwood East and Heathmont Community Bank® Branches.
